  The working principle of an AC/DC dual-purpose motor is the same as that of a DC series-excited motor, so the analysis can start with the series-excited DC motor. (a) in Figure 2 shows the working principle diagram when it is powered in the positive direction.
  According to the left-hand rule of the motor, it can be determined that the torque direction of the rotor is counterclockwise. Similarly, in Figure 2 (b), after being powered in the opposite direction, the torque direction of the motor remains counterclockwise. Therefore, for AC/DC dual-purpose motors, since the directions of their main magnetic flux and armature current change simultaneously with the polarity of the power supply, the average torque can be kept constant in the counterclockwise direction.
